Over the last seven years, David Keener has volunteered his
time, effort and technical expertise to assist a variety of non-profit
organizations and events.
RubyNation: Dave was invited to join the
Steering Committee for the RubyNation Conference so that he could assist the other members in
organizing and launching a new regional conference focused on the Ruby programming language. In addition
to organizational activities, Dave worked with other volunteers to build the
RubyNation.org web site, as well as key documents such as
the Sponsorship Prospectus.
Denvention 3: Dave volunteered his time and effort to
assist in hosting the 66th World Science Fiction Convention in Denver,
Colorado.
L.A. Con IV: Dave volunteered his time and effort to
assist in hosting the 64th World Science Fiction Convention in
Anaheim, CA. Besides working for the
convention, Dave also found time to
visit the bridge of the Starship
Enterprise (NCC-1701).
Belle Terra Web Site: Dave volunteered in 2005 to
develop a web presence for the newly built Belle Terra community. As
chairman of the Web Committee for the Belle Terra Homeowners Association,
Dave oversaw the design and implementation of the web site; in that role,
he continues to provide ongoing support for the
Belle Terra web site and the
community newsletter.
Belle Terra Architectural Standards: On behalf of the
Belle Terra Homeowners Association, Dave participated in the
Architectural Recommendations Committee which was tasked in 2006 to
recommend revisions to the Bell Terra Architectural Standards for the
community. The committee unamiously decided that the guidelines
established by the original developers were sadly deficient and resolved
to rewrite the guidelines from scratch. Dave took a lead role in
committee discussions and also functioned as the technical writer who
pulled the new Belle Terra Architectural Guidelines together.
Director and Vice President: In 2007, Dave was elected
as a Director for the Belle Terra HOA, and was later selected to be the
Vice President of the organization.
Hadley's Park: Hadley's Park Inc. was a local grassroots
non-profit organization created in 1996 by Shelley Kramm, of Potomac,
Maryland to design, develop, fund and build handicapped-accessible
playgrounds. In 2000 and 2001, Dave donated the time and effort to
design, build and maintain the web site for the organization. The
organization built several successful playgrounds in the Maryland and
Virginia areas, including the Hadley's Park Playground at the
Dulles
Town Center in Dulles, VA.
