GFIRST 2013 Canceled!

Citing sequestration and the need for financial tightening, the Department of Homeland Security just canceled GFIRST 2013, a major cyber security conference that I was scheduled to speak at. They may also have had some concerns about the scrutiny to which the IRS is currently being subjected.

Here's the full text of the email that GFIRST sent out:

Understanding the challenges posed by sequestration and the current budgetary environment in which we and our stakeholders are operating, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is canceling the 2013 GFIRST National Conference and Expo, scheduled for August 25-30, 2013, in Grapevine, Texas. DHS is grateful to GFIRST Conference partners, presenters, vendors, and attendees for the ongoing support, and sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this cancellation may cause.

The GFIRST Conference has become the platform for public and private sector cybersecurity professionals to network with peers, access vendor solutions, hear from security experts, and share information. The GFIRST Team is in the process of exploring other avenues to bring you some of the presentations you would have seen at this year's conference as well as opportunities to collaborate and share information. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to check the GFIRST webpage for more information about activities in lieu of this year's event and for information about future events. For more information on the status of presentation alternatives, visit www.us-cert.gov/gfirst.

Thank you,
The GFIRST Coordination Team
