Leveraging Rails to Build Facebook Apps

Since 2009, Facebook integration with Rails applications has occupied a fairly large portion of my development time. The development landscape has changed a lot over that same time period, particularly after Facebook's announcements at its F8 conference in late April of this year.

Facebook and Rails There are some compelling reasons for developers to want to integrate social media features, and Facebook features in particular, into their applications. In this talk, I've tried to outline those reasons, provide an overview of the development landscape (currently fractured and chaotic, yet gradually improving), illustrate how to get started and provide solid code examples for some of the most common types of integration.

There's a lot of content in this presentation. In fact, after the "last slide," there are appendices with 28 more slides covering additional information and providing more examples. I hope this is useful. Feel free to drop me a line with any questions or comments that you might have on the presentation.

Note: This talk was also videotaped at SunnyConf. I'll include a link to the video when it's made available online.

Nope. The video is still not available online. I think Confreaks is really backed up.
